Landscape Conversations | Oxford | 2019
I was invited to exhibit in The Jam Factory for 2 months and hold an artist evening. A fun and creative space that supports local artists and they do great food!
Artist Statement
Nature is multidimensional with many layers of colour, light and shapes and has natural compositions from the sky touching the earth and land meeting the water. In addition there are interesting arrangements composed from the interaction of man-made elements in the natural environment such as a pathway, track or hedge introducing lines and intersections leading one’s eye towards the vanishing point. I am directly informed by what I see and by my other senses and in my practice I am attempting to create from these senses a real representation of the landscape.
My work is process based, placed within a defined context of contemporary painting and print. I visually respond by creating colour palettes, screenprints, abstract paintings and producing interesting shapes from the components that make up a landscape.
I don’t stick to any particular medium. I enjoy using and exploring photography through my holga camera , squeegeeing an image through a screen, painting with a kaleidoscope of acrylic colours and spray painting. From the use of my own photographic images, experimentations with screen-printing and paint, my practice fluctuates between abstraction and representation.
Every mark I make is a reaction from the natural dialogue that is appearing before me, from my memory and has stimulated my senses. I believe I have an eye for abstraction, discerning and arranging colour and I use this to interpret and reflect my surroundings, mainly landscapes and nature at this point of my artistic practice.
I’m always looking for creative spaces to display my work. If you would like to collaborate please get in touch.
